Waypoint Academy

Waypoint Academy

Waypoint Academy serves the needs of students who are experiencing significant difficulty in their home schools’ and districts’ educational programs. The Waypoint Academy Program is an alternative school environment that can provide effective programming for students with emotional and/or behavioral disorders.

These essential programs develop appropriate and strong support for the students so that they can achieve success in both academic and social skills while aiding them to experience a more normalized educational process.

The aim of the Waypoint Academy is to increase teaching and learning time and reduce the time students spend on non-productive behaviors. In addition to an educational and therapeutic milieu, students access clinical support (four full-time Licensed Mental Health Counselors) on staff at the Academy. The work of the clinical staff is tailored to the individual needs of the students through participation in individual and group counseling to learn and develop conflict resolution skills, experience effective team building, develop communication skills, develop transition skills, participate in social skill assessment and training, and develop affective regulation skills.

Middle School Program

The Waypoint Academy Middle School, or latency, program helps younger students (ages 10-13) by providing diagnostic information and treatment services that prepare students for reintegration back to their home school district and sets them up for success in a less restrictive setting. There is a strong emphasis on hands-on and project-based learning experiences with age appropriate academic and behavior expectations.

High School Program

The Waypoint Academy High School Program consists of three focused services to help students succeed in school and after the graduate: the Adolescent Diagnostic Program for ages 13 to 18, the Adolescent Treatment Program for ages 12 to 18, and the Adolescent Occupational Training and Treatment Program for ages 16 and older.

The Waypoint Academy High School Program strives to meet the individual needs of students in the following developmental areas: clinical, academic, behavioral, and adjustment. Program supports are available in each area to assist the students in building upon their successes, improving self-esteem, and strengthening academic, organizational, and communication skills. Each student has an identified plan, which delineates specific objectives in each major need area or diagnostic area. These objectives make up the primary focus of treatment planning for each student with the ultimate outcome being reintegration into a less restrictive education program. It is our intention to help students achieve healthy, balanced growth in each need area, and develop the autonomy and maturity to eventually achieve this growth with emerging independence and a successful transition to less restrictive settings.

Adolescent Diagnostic Program

The Adolescent Diagnostic program is designed to address serious discipline and behavioral problems with an interim placement the program. Students undergo eligibility determinations for special educational services and Functional Behavior Assessments are completed by the clinical team.

Adolescent Treatment Program

Students who require long-term (one year or more), highly structured therapeutic services for academic achievement and social skill development can find success in the Adolescent Treatment Program. Students’ education and services designed according to their IEP, with an emphasis on preparing them for transitions into less restrictive settings as they acquire the necessary skills and resources for success.

Adolescent Occupational Training and Treatment Program

This program prepares students to meet the state mandated graduation requirements, along with any credit requirements for graduation from the sending school district. This program coaches students, helping them explore occupational options and opportunities for pre-employment experiences in addition to information and support regarding education and training options beyond high school.
