Bridgewater State Partnership
Bridgewater State University and the Cape Cod Collaborative have formally agreed to jointly enhance professional development opportunities for educators on Cape Cod. On January 28, 2020, the two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding to bring a “holistic center for teacher training and professional development to the Cape.”
Executive Director Paul Hilton of the Cape Cod Collaborative, and BSU President Frederick W. Clark Jr., Esq., signed the agreement, which also calls for school districts on the Cape to collaborate and pool resources for professional development.
“BSU,” said President Clark, “will foster a deeper partnership between the comprehensive public university in this region and the educational ecosystem on the Cape. BSU has had a decades-long connection to the Cape and reestablished its presence on the Cape five years ago, with the opening of a satellite campus in South Yarmouth.
As part of the agreement, BSU Cape Cod will provide office space for the Cape Cod Collaborative to pursue outreach and program development as well as offer the facility’s conference room, computing and classrooms for program delivery.
Meanwhile, BSU’s colleges of continuing and graduate studies will offer all off-site programs designed for educators on the Cape in partnership with the Collaborative and explore offering graduate credits to educators enrolled in Cape Cod Collaborative professional development courses.

The BSU Special Education Cohort Certification Program
Cape Cod Collaborative, in collaboration with Bridgewater State University, is offering a cohort certification program for special education (Moderate and Severe).
Classes offered will be the required courses to meet the requirements for provisional certification in Special Needs:
- Severe/All Levels (6 classes)
- Moderate/Prek-8 (5 classes)
- Moderate/5-12 (5 classes)
This cohort is open to member district personnel and Cape Cod Collaborative employees and nonmember district educators.
For member district personnel, tuition for each 3 credit course will be $600 and $800 for nonmember district educators, (a discount of 40-46% respectively) payable to the Cape Cod Collaborative prior to the start of each class.
Those that possess certification in another area (e.g. elementary education), may elect to take only the additional courses required for certification. Applications should be made through ELAR for an additional license. That will generate what competencies are needed to complete the licensure and worked out with BSU.
