Student Discipline Workshop – Legal Issues & Updates for
School & District Administrators
This Student Discipline Workshop will include a comprehensive review of student discipline laws with a focus on (i) Massachusetts student discipline statutes, (ii) disciplining students with disabilities, and (iii) civil rights issues that can arise within the student discipline context.
Presenter: Mary Gans has a unique perspective when it comes to student discipline matters, given her hands-on experience as a public school administrator and her legal expertise. Having graduated from Boston University School of Law in 1988, Mary has been practicing law in Massachusetts since 1988 and specializing in School Law since 1994. In 2007, Attorney Gans returned to graduate school, and earned an M.Ed. in School Counseling from Bridgewater State University. She was subsequently hired by the Falmouth Public Schools where she worked as a Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal, Principal at Falmouth Junior High School, and then as Principal of Falmouth High School for 6½ years. In January of 2022, Attorney Gans was appointed as the Falmouth Public Schools Director of Policy & Legal Affairs, serving as in-house legal counsel for the school district.
Course Date: Thursday, August 15 2024, 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Register by August 12th.
Location: Cape Cod Collaborative, 418 Bumps River Rd, Osterville, MA (in-person with a virtual option).
